  • Examine the bill’s denomination number in the bottom right corner. When held straight up and down, it should seem copper. Now tilt it 45 degrees away from you—on a genuine bill, the color will shift to green.
  • On a $100 bill, look for the brown image of the Liberty Bell atop a lighter brown inkwell.
  • Look for blurry areas, especially in fine details such as around the borders.
  • Examine the paper for colorful filaments. Tiny red and blue threads are incorporated in the paper of all US banknotes.
